Nothing Is So Beautiful As Sprung
Inspired by those at the Hopkins festival, Monsterevin 2005
Sean O'Leary

To find out if a poem is sprung
Roll it around like a plum on the tongue
And if, after a while
Makes you cry Makes you smile
Then you know that that smiles' never wrung

To find out if a rythym is sprung
Ask the very old or the very young
Cos it's found in the time
Of a nursery rhyme
That goes ding ding ding ding dung

When I asked Father Peter his opinion
He began quoting morning morning's minion
He said "Like pendulum swings
With dapple-drawn wings
Like cool silk ash gash gold vermillion"

Is a rhyme that is sprung like tree sap
That goes drip drip drip drip on your lap?
When I asked Father Joe
He said "Well, maybe so"
Then recited a gangster rap
